OTHER: Tohya is an heirloom determinate soybean that is great for edamame. Each pod has 3 large, fat, round seeds per pod. They have a delicious buttery flavor equal to Butterbeans with better texture. The bean pods grow in clusters, making them easy to harvest. Tohya Soybeans are early to mature, so are great for northern climates with a short season. The compact bushy plants can also be grown in containers.
Soybeans are a legume, so the plants can help fix the nitrogen levels of the soil to make it more fertile. The plants are also disease & pest free. They grow best when temperatures are between 60 – 70F, & can be planted as a spring or fall crop. They also have very lovely flowers, & the bean pods & stalks are fuzzy. Soybeans are rich in protein, and have been cultivated for more than 5,000 years. They have many uses besides just edamame or as dried beans. They are used to make tofu, soy sauce, soy milk, miso, flour, & animal feed. Soybeans also store well, & shelled beans can be frozen, canned, or dried, lasting for up to 12 months.
