OTHER: The Quince is considered a large shrub or small tree. Originally native to western Asia, today Quince are grown all over the globe, beloved for their wide range of growing zones, lovely flowers, and delicious fruit.
Quince's lovely fragrant flowers appear April to May, They are rich in nectar and pollen, providing valuable food for pollinators like honey bees. The Quince is self-pollinating, so more than 1 is not necessary, but cross-pollination can produce increased fruit production.
The fruit of the Quince is golden yellow, shaped liked a rounded pear. They measure 6 - 8" in diameter, & typically weigh a bit over 2 pounds each. Quince can be enjoyed raw or cooked. They can be juiced, and are often made in to jams & a variety of deserts like pies or Quince Bread (shown here), or are even paired with meats as their relatives apples & pears are.
